Toolbox session 1 USP session

Having to create a product in which I can help the environment by making it sustainable, and also society, by transmitting a positive message, my mind had a million ideas. Even though I wasn’t able to be in class and had a different environment, I had a focus on a market that I do know and a society that I understand, to create my product.

The way it will work is in order for people to become possible customers, they must bring three jean clothing, and an idea of what possible message they wish their garment to have, for us to create their new jean jacket. That way we are practicing sustainability by recycling clothes that no longer had a function to the owner and giving them a brand-new use. I like the idea of adding a phrase in the back as it will carry around a positive message which would be our USP, as all our clothing will have a phrase, but each cloth will have a unique phrase chosen by the owner. The original phrase that the jacket has is “Clothes are meant to fit you, and not the other way around” to embrace the fact that people tend to punish themselves if clothes don’t fit them, as it connects to gaining & losing weight, and that can be frustrating in many cases for people. So having a reminder that everybody is perfect, and clothes are made to fit you, not you into clothes.

I enjoyed the idea of creating this garment as it addresses all criteria, but I would have liked to share it with my classmates, to hear other’s opinions, and expand my way of thinking. Also not having a teacher to ask direct questions made all of my processes be a little harder and made me double think about each decision.

What I take as a strength in this project is the fact that I studied business and creating a product was a project that I did before, so I used my past skills to apply it to this project. As a weakness, I tend to focus more on how to make this a sustainable and effective business, than focusing more on the creative side, which personally I think I should have focused a little more on. Finally, for future times I would like to have the opportunity to ask as many questions as I can to the teacher to feel more confident with my ideas.
